Coachella Music & Arts Festival 2018/2017

A crowd of more than 100,000 concertgoers saw history in the making when 300 Intel drones colored the night sky above center stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2017. The dancing drones took the shape of a Ferris wheel before seamlessly transitioning into rotating windmills, palm trees, and a collection of abstract 3D objects. Social media lit up with comments like “OMG, they were drones!” and “So… we weren’t hallucinating!”

Presented by HP, Intel collaborated with festival director Bill Fold of Goldenvoice to prepare for the two weekends of performances. The first drone launch took place just before Radiohead took the stage and the other before Lady Gaga’s unforgettable performance. With all eyes on the sky, these dynamic light art installations stole the show with geometric shapes like a gigantic rotating 3D pyramid and a floating volumetric waveform.

Coachella is two weekends full of different kinds of music, abstract art, and the latest technology, making it the perfect event for drone light shows.
